The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is currently accepting public comments on possible reform to the Hours of Service rules. They are committed to making changes but those changes will only come if the industry – truckers included – participate in the rule making process. So, if you’ve ever wanted to tell regulators how things should be run, now’s your chance!
Here is a list on a few specific aspects of the HOS rules that the FMCSA is looking for input on:
· Examining the 30-minute mandatory rest break
· Allowing a “pause” on the 14-hour clock of up to three hours to let drivers take a break without penalizing them
· Allowing drivers to split up their required 10-hour off-duty rest break by repealing the 8-consecutive-hour rule.
